ITB Super Energy Saving Lamp Prototype Costs Rp100,000

A group of Electrical Engineering students from Bandung Technological Institute only needs Rp100,000 to make asuper energy saving house lamp.

All the components are locally made.

According to member of Ganesha Lamp Adhi Ichwan Kurniawan, their lamp innovation use 49 light-emitting diode (LED), controller, stabilizer, lamp holder, cable and lamp cover.

All the components, priced Rp100,000, could be easily found in electronic stores.

The lighting, at the moment named Ganesha Lamp, on 3 May obtained the first rank in theITB Entrepreneurship Challenge 2010.

The team, comprised of three members, arranges 49 LED lamps to light up one by one in order to save energy.

In order to look like they light up at the same time, Adhi Ichwan Kurniawan, Fela Rizki Wardana, and Fadolly Ardin, set an interval of 400 nanoseconds in each lighting.

The best product in Indonesian student’s business ideas competition is also cheap.

They calsulated that the 3 watt lamp which is equal to 100 watt lamp could be sold half of the prototype production cost.

“If it were mass produced, the cost of the lamp would be Rp,000-Rp50,000 per lamp,” said Fadolly Ardin.

The last year student admitted that the initial price seems expensive.

But if one considers the saving made by using the LED lamp, which is expected to last up to five years, the electricity cost would be cheaper.
